The American Movie Awards Winners, Nominees and Official Finalists are selected by a judging panel consisting of a consortium of film and entertainment industry experts, including directors, screenwriters, actors, development executives, professional screenplay readers, and other industry professionals from the best work entered through our official Call for Entries. Evaluated against a number of criteria, the entries undergo a rigorous process to win the coveted American Movie Award or Special Marquee Award.
How Work Is Judged
Round 1 Judging
From all the entries submitted during the Call for Entries, our Official Jury independently inspects each entry and rates them based on their respective judging criteria. The entries that fare best through this process are included on category specific shortlists and further evaluated by the Executive Members of the Official Jury.
Establish Winners, Nominees and Finalists
Final Round Judging
Executive Members of our Official Jury with category specific expertise further evaluate the shortlisted entries based on the appropriate criteria, and vote to determine American Movie Award Official Finalists, Nominees and Winners. In the event of a tie, an Executive of the American Movie Awards casts the tie-breaking vote. Executive Members may not vote in any category in which they have a conflict of interest.
For each of the 25+ categories, the Official Jury will select one (1) Grand Prize Winner, one (1) Silver Prize Winner, and one (1) Bronze Prize Winner, which will all win the coveted American Movie Award. Next, the Official Jury will select five (5) Nominees, representing the five next best entrants in the category. Finally, in addition to the Winners and Nominees, the Awards recognizes five (5) Official Finalists. We reserve the right to honor less than five Nominees or Official Finalists in any category should the quality of work not meet standards set by the judging criteria.
Because we not only acknowledge excellence, but we associate with it, the potential for conflicts of interest often arises. We take these conflicts very seriously. We do everything in our power to minimize occurrences of conflicts while ensuring that the best work is recognized.
The American Movie Awards staff selects a diverse body of judges who we feel are objective, respected and knowledgeable in their categories. Judges may not vote for any entry with which they have a conflict of interest; such situations are closely monitored, depending on both the personal integrity of the judges and various sources of knowledge to police such activity.
