Projects entered into multiple categories will be reviewed separately for each category entered. Projects entered into more than one category may win multiple awards.

Entries can be amateur or professional but should fit the general parameters of the category entered. The American Movie Awards reserves the right to re-categorize an entry if appropriate.
Narrative films of any genre over 45 minutes in length.
Narrative films of any genre under 45 minutes in length.
Documentary films over 45 minutes in length.
Documentary films under 45 minutes in length.
Animated films of any length or genre.
Films of any category or genre that were produced outside of the United States are eligible for consideration in this category.
Films of any length or genre that were written, directed, or produced by a current college student, graduate school student, or high school student currently enrolled, or produced while said student was still in school.
Films that do not fit a traditional narrative story structure or otherwise depart either in story or aesthetic from traditional filmmaking.
Films submitted to this category will be judged based on the quality of direction exhibited in the work.
Films directed by a first-time director are eligible for consideration in this category.
Music videos under 5 minutes in length.
Original pilots produced for television.
Entries to this category will be judged based on the quality of cinematography or videography demonstrated in the work.
Entries to this category will be judged based on the quality of editing demonstrated in the work.
Production Design / Art Direction
Entries to this category will be judged based on the quality of production design and art direction demonstrated in the work.
Entries to this category will be judged based on the quality of the screenplay and writing of the produced film.
Trailers or previews to films or television shows under three minutes in length.
Screenplays over 75 pages and over.
Narrative screenplays under 75 pages.
Original Television Pilot
Television scripts written as the pilot episode for an original series.
Spec Television Screenplay
A television screenplay based on an existing series.
Any screenplay written by a first-time screenwriter is eligible for consideration in this category.
Scripts written to be performed on the stage, as opposed to on the screen.
Entries in this category will be judged based on the performance of the lead actor.
Entries in this category will be judged based on the performance of the lead actress.
Best Supporting Actor
Entries in this category will be judged based on the performance of a supporting actor.
Best Supporting Actress
Entries in this category will be judged based on the performance of a supporting actress.
